The Hand I Hold

This is a demo of a song about all the hurricane fallout during this past September and October. My wife has some relatives who live in lower Mississippi, and we got some pretty chilling reports of all the damage and death down there.

I'm seeking a publisher for this song. If you'd like to talk with me about it, please send an e-mail: BG2004@BillyGewin.com. I imagine this could easily go on mainstream country radio stations, and each verse could be sung by a different person, which would be great in the context of a for-charity single.

The idea of the trumpet solo in the middle is supposed to allude to Dixieland music from the area of the country affected by the storms, but in reality a cajuny fiddle solo would probably be better for mainstream country radio.

Listen to the mp3

I am hardened by my luck
And the great disaster I behold
But as sure as I am standing
I will play the hand I hold

There is work to be done amidst
Broken levees, dreams and power lines
Though I cry as I push these floating bodies
They are flames from which I rise

Chorus

Went out drinking one night to the casinos
When I left I had nothing I brought in
Swore revenge and I cursed the lights and tables
Now I'd sell my soul to see them standing again

Moses stumbled down the mountain
Joseph found some extra room
Somehow Job kept up his faith and I know if it's what I must do
Somehow I can, too

solo

Well this truck will be late, but it's coming
Packed it up with things we thought you'd need
Isn't much, just a drop in the bucket
Not an eye was dry as it rolled out onto the street

Chorus
